HIM Became The Most-Streamed Finnish Artist, With Darude Ranking Second
HIM has risen to become the most-streamed Finnish artist on Spotify. The band’s music attracts over 5.18 million monthly listeners on the platform. HIM is currently the only Finnish artist to surpass the five-million mark. The band's ascent to the top spot has been phenomenal; just a year ago, their listener count was half what it is now, and they ranked only fifth.
There are a total of 16 Finnish artists whose monthly listener count on Spotify exceeds one million. Darude follows HIM in second place with 4.62 million listeners, closely trailed by DJ FKU—known for phonk-style EDM —with 4.59 million monthly listeners.
Ranking fourth among artists who have surpassed the milestone of one million monthly Spotify listeners is The Rasmus (3.45 million), followed by Apocalyptica (3.29 million), Nightwish (2.79 million), EBEN (2.18 million), Robbe—part of the Luxonia collective—(2.13 million), Bomfunk MC’s (1.79 million), and Janji (1.77 million).
"We began compiling this list of Finnish artists reaching the million-listener mark a little over a year ago, and the musicians and creators who made the cut have remained largely the same throughout that time. HIM’s rise to the number one spot comes as quite a surprise, though the list also features many other long-standing Finnish bands, such as The Rasmus, Apocalyptica, Beast in Black, and even Bomfunk MC’s," notes Tomi Lindblom, who maintains the "million-listener list" on the music site Luxonia.
However, the "million-listener club" for Finnish artists is dominated by EDM, a genre represented by a total of seven artists on the list.
“In addition to Darude and DJ FKU, EBEN, Robbe from the Luxonia collective, Janji, YOTTO, and YES YES have long been on the ‘million-listener list’—a testament to the strong global popularity of Finnish EDM,” Lindblom emphasizes.
Three Eurovision representatives have experienced the sharpest drops within the Finnish ‘million-listener club’; all of them had over 1.2 million monthly listeners as recently as May. Now, KAJ has just under 700,000, Pete Parkkonen just under 390,000, and Linda Lampenius slightly over 300,000.
