Deadmau5 has sold his music catalog and Mau5trap label to Create Music Group. The purchase price was a little over $55 million, or about 50.5 million euros. The deal, which covers Deadmau5's audio recordings and copyrights to more than 4,000 songs, also includes the formation of a joint venture to release future recordings by Deadmau5 and Mau5trap.
Create Music Group will begin exploiting the songs by mastering and re-releasing them. In addition, the company will begin developing new "innovative marketing tactics to introduce Mau5trap's output to new generations of fans." It will also begin exploring licensing opportunities.
In addition, they will begin exploring licensing opportunities, brand partnerships, and integrating Mau5trap's music into gaming, VR, and live streaming.
“I have worked closely with Create Music Group for nearly two decades, building my own career and that of the artists at Mau5trap. The deal with them was a natural fit and I believe my music will reach even wider audiences in the future,” says Joel Zimmerman, aka Deadmau5 artist and founder of Mau5trap.
